Udhampur tense after 5 Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Gutkas thrown into well

Tension gripped Udhampur village in Ropar district after 5 holy scripture Guru Granth Sahib and Gutkas were thrown into a well a few days ago. A bhog was held in the village on Monday under heavy police presence.  Sources said on intervening night of August 13 and 14, some unknown and mischievous persons opened the lock of the gurdwara in Udhampur village bordering Fategarh Sahib district and took away five copies of Guru Granth Sahibs and 24 gutkas and threw it into the well of the village.

The next day when the garanthi reached the gurdwara, he saw that the lock of the gurdwara was broken and the Guru Granth Sahib and gutkas were missing. He informed the villagers and the police.

“During the search, the villagers found copies of holy scriptures in the well of the village. These were then taken to Goindwal Sahib,” said an official.

After that there was tension in the village and nearby areas as some people from Morinda came and threatened the granthi of the gurdwara.The matter was reported to the police and a case was registered against unknown people.  Member Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, Jathedar Tarlochan Singh Keshgarh Sahib, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar, Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh of Akal Takht and Simranjit Singh Mann, attended the bhog along with a few hundred people.  “It was an unfortunate incident and the police should arrest the culprits as soon as possible,” Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said.
