After Hond Chillar, where it was discovered that at least 70 innocent Sikhs were massacred, another village in Haryana – Haily Mandi – has now revealed its terrible secret that has been hidden for 28 years. It is said that after the investigation of Engineer S. Manwinder Singh Giaspura it has be revealed that in November 1984 over 40 innocent Sikhs were murdered in the Haryana State village of Haily Mandi, when Hindu Mobs went on the rampage after the death of Indian Prime minster, Mrs Indira Gandhi.
Reports have made known that one witness, a Muslim by the name of Maksood, states two daughters of a S.Gian Singh were raped in front of him, Maksood described how he tried in vain to stop the Hindu mobs from attacking the Sikh women. The young women aged 16 and 19 were repeatedly raped by the mob. Maksood also mentioned that the women’s nightmare did not stop there, the men then urinated on the faces of the two females.
The murders of the Sikhs and rape of Sikh women in village Hailyl Mandi, were affirmed in a F.I.R (First information Report) by witness S.Harbhajan Singh of village Kheri at Patodhi Police Station in Haryana in November 1984. According to reports the copy of the mentioned FIR ( F.I.R Number 165 Date Filed 4.11.1984) was presented by a member of the Hond Chillar Memorial Talmel Committee to Justice T.P. Garg on 26th July 2012. Several charges under the Indian Police System (I.P.S) have been put against named suspects but as yet no form of enquiry has taken place.
Witness S.Harbhajan Singh of Kheri village after giving a statement under the Criminal Procedure Code, said that in the village of Haily Mandi he was leasing a factory and was running it under the business name of Haryana Metal Industry. Harbhajan Singh revealed that on 1st November 1984 Hindu mobs number approximately 400 – 500 individuals started setting fire to Sikh homes and businesses in the village. Harbhajan Singh also witnessed the mobs beating to death with wooden sticks, Sikhs, Gopal Singh Harwinder Singh and Gurmukh Singh. The mobs then went to the nearby railway tracks which are situated behind the village High School. A train bogey where 17 Sikhs were taking shelter from the carnage were burnt to death when the mob set fire to it. Harbhajan Singh while talking to the Talmel Committee said that in addition 22 or more Sikhs were dragged from their homes and killed.
S.Harbhajan Singh added he and his family only survived after taking refuge in a nearby village Khalilpur where he knew the village head. After a few days S.Harbhajan Singh then went to the Patodhi Police Station to seek support for himself and his family but was turned away as officers said the mobs may come back. S.Harbhajan Singh does not know what happened to the dead bodies as he was not in the village for many days after the killings and Sikhs of the area never talked about the event for years due to possible reprisals. S.Harbhajan Singh has now only spoken out due to the support of Engineer Manwinder Singh Giaspura
