CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday refused to pass any order on a petition seeking appointment of an administrator for managing affairs of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The issue came up before the division bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Surya Kant while they heard a petition filed by Sehajdhari Sikh Party. Petitioners had also sought directions to restrain functioning of members of newly-constituted body of SGPC.
Petitioner contended that following the judgment passed by full bench of HC on Tuesday, the recently-constituted SGPC had become null and void and an administrator was required to look after its affairs. The court orally observed that the petition was premature as SGPC had an option to appeal against the full bench orders. Thereafter, court adjourned the petition for January 3 for further hearing. Petitioner wanted the administrator for managing affairs of SGPC till fresh elections of the body. The petition was filed in the wake of fresh developments that took place following the HC decision quashing of notification through which Sehajdhari Sikhs were debarred from voting in SGPC polls.
