Reiterates Lokpal Bill will be presented in winter session of Parliament
Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid on Sunday said all legislation “towards making a separate law to register marriages under the Anand Marriage Act have been approved by the law ministry” and it was awaiting approval by the Legal and Human Rights Department.
“We are sure the amended Act will soon be implemented,” he told a conclave on legal and electoral reforms held here.
Currently, Sikh marriages are registered under the Hindu Marriage Act. Sikhs have been demanding a separate Act for registering their marriages but the Centre has been objecting to it on grounds that it will lead to demand from other communities like Parsis and Christians for a separate Act to register their marriages.
Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pawan Kumar Bansal also assured that the Centre would carry out amendments to Anand Marriage Act.
