Stating that Jagtar Singh Hawara, guilty of assassinating former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, had filed a petition to garner political mileage, the Chandigarh Administration on Tuesday submitted its reply in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Hawara had filed his petition seeking protection as he apprehended threat to his life and liberty after he was attacked by some Hindu activists on the UT District Court premises.
Submitting that the security for Hawara had been beefed up after the incident, the Chandigarh Administration stated that a case had been registered against those who attacked Hawara, and they were facing a criminal trial.
The reply also stated that it was the Delhi Police which brings Hawara to Chandigarh, and that there was no threat to Hawara’s life. He is at present in Tihar Jail and is brought to Chandigarh on every date of hearing in the Burail jail-break case.
