The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is the oldest regional democratic party of India, with a glorious saga of historic and valiant struggle for the attainment and preservation of Sikh religious and political interests.
The Shiromani Akali Dal – which some have seem to have forgotten, is a party of Martyrs – during the partys early years, it organised Morchas to ensure Gurdwara reforms, including Morcha ‘chabian da gucha’, ‘Guru Ka Bagh’ Morcha, ‘Jaito’ Morcha and the freeing of Nanakana Sahib. The Akalis during these agitations were imprisoned, beaten mercilessly until rendered unconscious, shot and killed and others like Bhai Lachman Singh was hung upside down from a tree, set alight and burnt alive.
In light of this, the Shiromani Akali Dal is the only Sikh party in India which has a proven track record of winning elections, coming to power and serving the people of Punjab, the Sant Samaj led by Baba Harnam Singh Ji Khalsa, after much consideration and for the betterment of the Sikh Nation, formed an alliance with a aim to secure the liberty, rights and freedom of the Sikh people. The combined political and religious strengths of the combined is providing the foundation for the change needed for a stronger future. Inevitably, this combine will not sit well with some but results are and will speak for themselves.
With the results of the Punjab elections on March 6th 2012, it is now clear that with a united vote bank, Sikhs can decimate its foes through the democratic system, such as the infamous Sirsa Dera. The Dera was seen in the 2007 Punjab elections as the major force behind the Congress which took control of the Malwa belt. However the defeat of the Congress candidate Harminder Singh Jassi (Jassi’s son is married to the daughter of the Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim) at the hands of the SAD candidate, is a clear signal of the downfall of the so-called political might of the Sirsa based fake Baba.
With the strength now of the Shiromani Akali Dal and Sant Samaj alliance, the success of the SGPC vote results have clearly shown what can be achieved if ego is put aside. With the Punjab Legislative Assembly Election results, it has been proven again that when the Sikh Nation joins forces and works together then unprecedented historic wins can be rendered. Never, since 1947 has one political party in Punjab served two successive terms, until now.
The International Panthic Dal (I.P.D) urges all Sikh political groups and organisations, including Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), All India Sikh Student Federation, and Panch Pardhani, to name but a few, to join with the Sant Samaj and Shiromani Akal Dal, so that there will be no need for any future alliance with the BJP. We the Sikh Community should aim to govern our own affairs totally without interference.
I.PD. hopes very much, that current issues facing the Sikh Nation, including that of Prof Davinderpal Singh Bhullar case, return of the Sikh Reference Library, unifying a Sikh Rehat Maryada, implement the Anand Karaj Marriage Act, release of Political Prisoners and install the June 1984 Memorial, all can now be resolved with the combined efforts of the Sant Samaj and Shiromani Akali Dal in the very near future. The IPD is working effortlessly towards realising solutions for these issues.
