Sikhs again demand for free access to Kartarpur Sahib

NEW DELHI: The Sikh community has again demanded for a corridor connecting Dera Baba Nanak (India) and Kartarpur Sahib(Pakistan) across the Indo-Pak border to allow the pilgrims to have access to the Kartarpur shrine without passport or visa.

Partap Singh Bajwa, Congress MP from Gurdaspur has asked the government for construction of corridor across the border to facilitate visits to Kartarpur Sahib where Guru Nanak Dev ji had spent the last 17 years of his life. As the shrine is across the border, very few people are able to pay their obeisance to the place which is very close to their hearts, due to the visa hassles.

During the zero hour in Lok Sabha Bajwa said that in the year 1999, Pakistan had agreed for the corridor and promised to assist in the construction of the corridor on its territory but there has been little progress since the last 12 years. He urged the foreign ministry to take the matter with the Pakistani authorities.
