LUDHIANA: The Bains brothers who had been expelled from Shiromani Akali Dal during the Punjab assembly elections are going to make a comeback to the party. As the civic polls are approaching, the brothers declared that their coming back is just a formality as they never had any differences with the party high command.
Simarjit Singh Bains and his brother Balwinder Singh had contested independently and won the elections with record margins. Simarjit who had last month stated that the duo would be fielding candidates for all the 75 wards of Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, said that Akali Dal is their home and their differences were with only at the local level.
Bains brothers claimed that they had never criticized SAD publicly during any rally or at any occasion and were going to join the party formally within few days. Balwinder had returned the party ticket from Ludhiana South after his brother was denied one. As a result, the duo were expelled from the party.
Balwinder contested independently from Ludhiana South, defeating Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura by more than 32,000 votes while Simrajit defeated Akali stalwart and former minister Hira Singh Gabaria from Atam Nagar with more than 28,000 votes.
