Due to there being no evidence or proof, Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar was jailed for involvement in the Dehli Bomb attacks in 1993 under totally false claims only being release on the 24th April 2016 on 21 days parole. After spending 24 years with a life or death scenario hanging over his head Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar was released from Jail for first time on 21 days parole.
Recently transferred from a Dehli jail to Amristar Jail last year Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar was admitted to the psychological conditions center at the government medical college of Amristar for continued treatment of his condition. It was from this center that Professor Bhullar was released on parole. As well as being kept in Jail on false claims Professor Bhullar was also sentenced to be hanged by the neck until dead by a panel of judges. Despite a challenge by some of the panel, who pointed out that you could not sentence a man to death on a mere suspicion alone, the death sentence was surprisingly still upheld. It was this added phsycological pressure of a death sentence hanging over his head, as well as the harsh treatment he received in prison for 21 years, which lead to the deteriation of Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar’s mental well being. To save Professor Bhullar from being killed by the state, the Damdami Taksal, Sant Samaj, the Shrimoni Committee, the Delhi Gurdwara Committee and other Sikh Organisations had been fighting the good fight for many years. Following all these representations from the Sikhs the supreme court considered the mental effect the state’s treatment of Professor Bhullar had had on his mental condition and commuted the death sentence to that of life imprisonment.
Following this commuted sentence International Panthic Dal and some other Sikh Organisation vehemently petitioned for Professor Bhullar to be transferred from a Delhi prison to an Amritsar prison. During this period Bhai Gurbaksh Singh and Bapu Surat Singh Ji were also on hunger strike in support of Professor Bhullar. On the 18th March 2016 a delegation from International Panthic Dal under the leadership of Bhai Ragbir Singh and Bhai Parmjeet Singh met with the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal on the issue of Sikh Political Prisoners at which point the Deputy Chief Minsiter asked for one month to agree to the demands of the Sikhs and in particular the release of Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar and Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera, another Sikh Political Prisoner. On the 18th of April 2016 the International Panthic Dal Delegation met with the Deputy Chief Minister again. In the days following these meetings their efforts proved fruitful as both Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera and Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar were released on Parole. Present at the actual release of Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar was the former Jathedar of the Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib and leader of International Panthic Dal, Singh Sahib Bhai Jasvir Singh Khalsa who paid tribute to Professor Bhullar by honoring him with a Saropa. Also present to pay tribute to Professor Bhullar were Bhai Ragbir Singh Ji, UK head of International Panthic Dal, other prominent members of Damdami Taksal and many other Sikh leaders.
Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar’s wife, Navneet Kaur Bhullar thanked all the Sikh Personalities and members who were present to provide support and honor her husband at the point of his release.
