Shiromani Akali Dal members today shouted slogans in front of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) headquarter, denouncing controversial Congress leader Jagdish Tytler for his role in the 1984 anti-sikh riots.
The Akali Dal delegation met IOA acting president Vijay Kumar Malhotra and secretary general Randhir Singh separately and demanded that Tytler should be removed from all posts in the apex sports body.
The delegation also threatened to gherao the IOA office if Tytler is not removed from his position. Tytler is currently the President of Judo Federation of India and one of the Vice-Presidents of IOA.
“Suresh Kalmadi was removed from all posts because of his involvement in the Commonwealth games scams and we want that Tytler too should be removed from all posts in the Olympic body for his role in the anti-sikh riots of 1984,” a member said.
A former MP, Tytler was given a clean chit by CBI in 2009 for his involvement in the 1984 riot. It led to widespread protests from the sikh community and later Congress party dropped both Tytler and another accused Sajjan Kumar as Congress candidates for 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
