AMRITSAR: After the General elections of SGPC here on Monday fifteen members of SGPC has been co-opted by Avtar Singh Makkar who was empowered by the elected house to chair the meeting which was meant exclusively to co-opt new members.
Fifteen new members were co-opted in the presence and observation of Election Commissioner Gurdwara H.S. Brar and officiating Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Satwant Singh Johal at the mini Sikh Parliament Teja Singh Samundari Hall in the SGPC Complex.
On this occasion Jathedar Akal Takht Gyani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar of Takhat Keshgarh Anandpur Gyani Tarlochan Singh, Jathedar Takhat Patna Sahib Giani Iqbal Singh and Vice Jathedar of Takhat Hazoor Sahib from Nanded Gyani Jotinder Singh and Head Granthi of Darbar Sahib Gyani Jaswinder Singh and full house of new elected member of SGPC authorized Jathedar Avtar Singh Makkar to chair the meeting of the house which was scheduled for today to co-opt the 15 SGPC members.
Among fifteen new members who were elected unanimously were Gurcharn Sing from Punjab, Gurdev Singh from Punjab, Ragujit Singh Virk from Harayna, Karnail Singh Panjoli from Punjab, Surjit Singh Kang from Rajashthan, Ram Singh from Punjab, Jagtar Singh from Punjab, Surjit Singh from Merrut- Uttar Pradesh, Harbhjan Singh Cheema Uttranchal, Surjit Singh from Uttar Pradesh, Harmanjit Singh from Delhi, Bhupinder Singh Anand from Delhi, Gurminder Singh from Delhi, Gurinder Singh Bawa from Maharashtra and Bibi Sukhiwnder Kaur from Maharashtra.
Talking to media Makkar said that earlier during the general SGPC election 170 members were elected and today with the co-option of 15 members the total strength of the house has touched 185 members. He also made it cleared that with the six Sikh head priests the total strength would be 191 members. He said that now with in the period of thirty days the new SGPC President to be elected by the new house.
