After the SAD-BJP government suffered a jolt in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election, the Parkash Singh Badal government is planning a major administrative as well as police reshuffle in the state. Besides a major administrative rejig, Badal is also likely to expand his Cabinet.
Sources said the Punjab government is trying to connect to the common man after the Akali Dal’s rout in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The BJP-SAD combine lost seven Lok Sabha seats out of 13.
According to sources, the feedback, which was given to the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during the elections, said the common people are not happy with the bureaucracy and the SAD-BJP politicians.
In fact, state affairs in-charge Shanta Kumar has also clearly said that the poor show by the government, besides the tainted faces in the government, led to the rout of BJP-SAD alliance in the state. The Akali Dal, which lost over 24 per cent vote share to AAP, is now realising its past mistakes. The state government is planning a big administrative reshuffle by transferring bureaucrats and police officers.
Meanwhile, Punjab police has dismissed two inspectors for helping drug-smugglers. Kahnuwal police station SHO Kulwant Singh was dismissed from service for releasing a drug smuggler after allegedly taking a bribe. In another case, a Jalandhar-based Sub-Inspector Gurbinder Singh was dismissed from service after heroin was found from his possession.
