Bhai Lal Singh who has been lodged in Nabha jail has been issued parole and has arrived at Gurdwara Amb Sahib from Nabha Jail. He has told us that since the case of Bhai Lal Singh is related to Gujarat, Narendra Modi would have to issue orders for the final release. Bhai Lal Singh is expected to be released on Monday for 6 weeks.
In addition, Akhilesh Yadav from Uttar Pradesh has also ordered files of Bhai Wariyam Singh from the CBI. His parole or bail is expected shortly. Bhai Wariyam Singh has been jailed in Uttar Pradesh since 1990.
In relation to four other Singhs, we have learned from the Sikh Organization for Prisoner Welfare that the cases of Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, Gurmit Singh and Shamsher Singh, who are lodged at Burail Jail (Chandigarh) require intervention of the Centre Government. Punjab Government has been asked to take up the issue with the Centre as was done in the case of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. Lastly, Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera has been detained in Karnataka jail for the last 23 years. The Punjab Government has supposedly tried to raise talks with the Karnataka Chief Minister. On the other hand, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s campaign received major support today as he was joined by a number of prominent Kirtanis and Katha vachaks. Namely, Giani Pinderpal Singh, Bhai Harjinder Singh (Sri Nagar), and Bhai Satwinder Singh (Delhi) met with Bhai Gurbaksh Singh at Gurdwara Amb Sahib. A number of prominent Punjabis, including Manmohan Singh and Kamal Heer have also visited Gurdwara Amb Sahib.
A large scale march was organized from Ludhiana by Bhai Damandeep Singh. Hundreds of Sikhs from the city and nearby areas took part in it. Bhai Damandeep Singh had fasted for four days when Bhai Gurbaksh Singh was abducted by the Mohali police. He was asked by Bhai Gurbaksh Singh to break his fast and raise awareness of the movement.
The march reached Gurdwara Amb Sahib with great fervor. Sikh youth in large numbers took part in the march and there was a large number of cars and motorcycles accompanying it. A candle light vigil was also organized in Haryana and it received much support from local residents. A march is going to be organized in Delhi tomorrow and it will go through a number of major cities raising awareness of Sikh prisoners who have not been released despite having completed their sentences.
