Amid heavy security, Balwant Singh Rajoana, who is facing death sentence in former CM Beant Singh’s assassination case, was on Monday produced in a court here in connection with an Explosive Act case pending against him.
The case was registered in 1995 by the Rajpura police allegedly after seizure of explosives from Rajoana. After his death sentence was suspended temporarily, it was for first time that Rajoana has been produced in court of additional sessions judge Sanjiv Beri. The court has fixed January 28 as the next date of hearing.
Later, the accused was produced in the court of additional sessions judge Ravinder Singh, where another case of Arms Act was pending against him. This court has fixed February 4 as the next date of hearing.
In the wake of Rajoana’s appearance, the court was turned into a virtual fortress. It is pertinent to mention that Rajoana is already facing the gallows for killing former CM Beant Singh. Even a court had issued death warrants against Rajoana in March, 2012, but due to widespread protests by radicals, the Punjab jail department had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court that he couldn’t be hanged as other cases were still pending against him.
