SIKHS in Huddersfield handed over £800 in memory of soldiers who fought and died for Britain.
Worshippers at the Sikh temples in Springwood and Fartown sold khandas, or wooden crosses, for the Poppy Appeal.
The community handed over the money to the Royal British Legion in a presentation at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara Springwood temple.
By the time of the First World War there were 100,000 Sikhs in the British Indian Army. During the Great War Sikhs fought in the trenches of Germany and at Gallipoli, Egypt, Palestine, Mesopotamia and France.
In World War Two the British raised six battalions of the Sikh Regiments which served in El Alamein, Burma, Italy and Iraq between them winning 27 battle honours.
The money was received by Colin Atkinson, poppy organiser for West Huddersfield, who thanked everyone who donated to the £8,500 total raised in his area.
