A Sikh soldier yesterday became the first guardsman to parade outside Buckingham Palace wearing a turban instead of the famous bearskin.
Jatenderpal Singh Bhullar, 25, a Scots Guardsman, previously said being the first Sikh to mount guard in a turban would be the “best thing in his life”.
The historical moment came as figures from the 2011 Census released yesterday revealed a rise in the number of Sikhs living in Britain over the last decade, from 336,179 people in 2001 (0.8 per cent) to 423,000 (0.59 per cent) in 2011.
