The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president, Ashwani Sharma, today demanded a memorial on the lines of Jallianwala Bagh in memory of innocent persons killed during the Pakistan-sponsored terrorism era in the state. He said during the decade-long terrorism, hundreds of people from all religions, political parties, social groups, the media and those in the police were killed.
He said a peace memorial on the lines of Jallianwala Bagh should be built as a tribute to them.
The BJP spokesman, Manoranjan Kalia, said his party was against any act which glorified the period of terrorism in the state.
“Let the memorial be built in memory of all those who died fighting terrorism.”
The SGPC is raising a memorial for all those killed inside the Golden Temple complex during Operation Bluestar.
