Politics to take centre stage from Punjab Day

From yatras to kabbadi tourney, parties to step up campaign for Assembly polls

Political parties are gearing up to step up their campaign from November 1—Punjab Day—for the ensuing Assembly elections slated for February.

While the Congress will be starting Punjab Bachao Yatra, the newly formed Sanjha Morcha will also start its Izzat Sambhal Yatra and the ruling SAD-BJP government in order to counter these yatras have invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for laying foundation stone of International Airport in Mohali and dedication of Khalsa Heritage Complex in Anadpur Sahib, besides organising the World Kabaddi Cup.

Main opposition Congress would be launching its state-wide yatra from November 1 from Damdama Sahib, one of the five temporal seats of Sikhs. The yatra, orginally called Parivartan Yatra and later changed to Punjab Bachao Yatra, will conclude at Budhladha on December 2.
