Sharjah court orders release of 17 Punjabis

JALANDHAR: A Sharjah court ordered the release of 17 Punjabi youth who were on death row for the murder of a Pakistani, Misri Khan. They were sentenced to two years imprisonment in bootlegging case which they had already served as they were in jail for the last three and half years.

However, their release from the jail may take a few more days as the authorities would be checking from other places if there was any other case against them. After their release, they would be brought back to India by Dubai based hotelier S P Singh Oberoi who played most crucial role in paying blood money and negotiating with the family of the deceased which was earlier adamant on the “revenge”.

The appellate court, which was hearing the appeal filed by the youth against their conviction in the case put its seal on the settlement between the two parties, accused and family of the deceased, through blood money and it took only a few minutes to finish the proceedings of the case on Monday morning.
