Sikhs gather in Leicester to remember the Sikh sacrifices

International Panthic Dal (I.P.D ) were invited as guest speakers at Guru Nanak Gurdwara, 9 Holy Bones Leicester. The program ‘Parnaam Shaheedan Nu’ was organised by Guru Nanak Gurdwara Committee and the Leicester Sadh Sangat.

Bhai Bitnam Singh I.P.D member and guest speaker, started with Katha in English and Punjabi covering the meaning of Shaheedi, and its role in Sikh history. This was followed by Keertan by Guru Nanak Sangeet Academy. Gurmat Sewa Society’s Bibi Kuljit Kaur then explained in English- Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale life and Martrydom. Khalsa Youth Clubs Kawishri Jatha en-lighted the Sangat with poems of Martyrs past and present from Sikh history.

Bhai Kuldip Singh – I.P.D guest speaker followed by Bhai Harpreet Singh I.P.D also guest speaker- both in detail covered atrocities committed by the Indian State since 1984, and also gave details of how we as nation can gain freedom and justice.

Gurjit Singh I.P.D member informed the Sangat of both Martyr Bhai Rupinder Singh Rupi and Martyr Bhai Jaspal Singh (Gurdaspur) lives and Martyrdoms. Both Martyrs family members who were present were honoured with gifts and bestowed with Siropa Sahibs.

The Sangat was also briefed about the successful 5km sponsored walk in aid of Bhai Lakwinder Singh (Punjab Project), which was held in Leicester in conjunction with Bedford based Sikh group, Akaal Seva, Stage Secretary Bhai Amrik Singh Gill thanked all those that took part in the family event the day before.

Finally, medals and certificates were awarded to children of Khalsa Youth Club who in the month of June, carried out Simran in remembrance of all those who lost their lives during Operation Blue Star 1984. Certificates were given by Bhai Jaspal Singh I.P.D member and Bhai Gurdeep Singh – General Secretary of Guru Nanak Gurdwara.
